The methods to get your site higher on the search engines are actually far easier and quite different then what most of the "Gurus" will tell you. The simple fact that you are reading this article, proves that most of those traffic generation techniques that they tell you are either ineffective, or downright expensive. Normally, Pay-Per-Click campaigns will cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month and that is the method they tell you to use first!
Now, lets assume, that you have already picked out your micro-niche and already have a website. The first bit of SEO you should employ is search engine submission. You can't raise through the ranks on the search engines unless you've entered your site into them. The problem is, there are literally thousands of search engines out there and you're probably not going to have the time to submit to them all. You should also have your site submitted once a month to these search engines as it keeps your site fresh. I have a link pointing to one that I recommend at the bottom of this page that submits to search engines and directories and is a low cost option.
Next, you need to work on some basic link building. Article marketing is an excellent way to get new links to your site and it is a great way to get your name out there in front of thousands of people. The more people that see your name, the more people that will associate your name with your business. This type of marketing is excellent for this as it builds trust with your customer base as well as markets yourself as an expert. With only about a half hour of your time, searching on Google, you can be an expert in just about anything.
Now, you need some blogs. I use MySpace and Blogger myself, but there are plenty of blog sites out there. You don't want to just market on a blog just like you don't want to just market on an article. You need some pertinent information dealing with your niche that will be something that interested individuals will want to read. You also don't want to make your blog or article too long either, around 250-500 words(Thats a problem that I have).
Next, you want to set up links to your site on some social networking sites. Myspace and Squidoo are excellent for this. You can set up many different Lenses(Squidoo webpages) on Squidoo to talk about issues related to, or information regarding, your niche. You can also join groups and send out messages to these groups. A good idea is to incluse links at the bottom of every page and correspondance.
Finally, when your site gets indexed into the search engines, you should foot the bill to buy traffic. You need to find a reputable company so you can be sure that you are getting good quality, unique hits to your website. This will help you to raise higher in the ranks on the search engines because of the number of people going to your site. After all of this is done, you may want to try a PPC campaign to augment your existing traffic, but not to get initial sales because of the risk involved.
So, to wrap things up, you need to have a multi-level system in place. You need to use a search engine submission service, article marketing, blogs, social networking sites, and payed traffic generation techniques. It all takes time, but using these methods will get you very high in the search engine rankings for your site. Thank you for all the time you've spent reading this article, now it's time for a couple of links that will help you to get ahead in this world wide web.
