Yes, there is Software around, but can't see that it helps one bit with SEO, so perhaps we should question this in a different way
Why would we want to send our Web Site details to Google, Yahoo, etc?
The answer seems fairly clear, 'because I want more Search Engines to find my pages'
So, why would we want our Web Site listed on lots of Search Engine results?
Again it appears to be a reasonable question, but we are getting to the key here!
'So that when people Google a phrase, they are presented with my web site in the listings and go to my web site!'
In the real world, there are just 2 or 3 Search Engines that are meaningful and in preference in my opinion these are, Google, Yahoo & MSN. Why in this order? Easy Google my friends attracts the MOST SEARCHERS, then Yahoo, then MSN
Google apparently is known to bring in 60% of all web searches, something like 20% on Yahoo and 15% searchers on MSN. The last 4 - 5% is fought out by the the smaller players ASK, AltaVista, Dog Pile, and a few others. So the thought should maybe be rephrased in an alternative manner
How can I get Yahoo, MSN, whoever to list my web site?
The fastest way is to get a High Traffic Site site to link to you - One of the easiest ways is to write a fresh piece, perhaps a summary and post it onto this site for others to find!
This works so well, because Google in particular likes to re-index these high traffic pages frequently(often every hour), because the posts is always expanding and in case this is new to you, all of the search engines need unique content to add. Don't consider that you can steal other article content and post it on an Article Directory, it's a fast road to find yourself rejected on an Article Directory!
Do not copy your own Web Site material either, you want the engines to be forced to follow the links to your site, immediately following the link on the article site. The top sites that post articles have become very popular with Search Engines and so provide a great 'springboard' for getting your Google listing and perhaps much more importantly to bring readers who are likely to be interested in your Web Site
For those who ask, I won't recommend sending a submission to Google or MSN and ONLY to Yahoo, IF you are going to pay for the privilege of listing in their Directory Service. Rarely is this a sensible requirement, so don't throw your money away, save it for in finding interested visitors for your site

Perhaps this is what every Web Site needs. If you drive a decent number of searchers, (that is, they are already interested in your niche) to your web site, would that help? I think it would!
- What is the material of your Web Page about?
- How would it help the reader?
- Does it provide something that researches about a product, a service, a past time or hobby?
Consider things from outside the webmaster's point of view, then you will present your web site with the visitor as the priority and not what you've decided will be on the pages. A crucial point of all SEO is acting like a new viewer.
What do visitors search for?
That's why researching keywords and keyword phrases is so important. There is no good reason to go ahead optimizing a page for subjects that almost no-one look for still to my amazement there are hundreds if not thousands of sites on the Internet
So do some identifying targeted Keywords and identify how you can best serve the visitor with what your web site.
